About Strat-O-Matic
Strat-O-Matic was invented by 11-year-old Hal Richman in his bedroom in Great Neck, NY in 1948 as a result of his frustration with the statistical randomness of other baseball board games. He discovered that the statistical predictability of dice would give his game the realism he craved. Over the next decade, he perfected the game at summer camp and then as a student at Bucknell University. After producing All-Star sets in 1961 and ‘62, he parlayed a $5,000 loan from his father (and made a deal that if it didn’t work out he would work for his father’s insurance company) into the original 1962 Strat-O-Matic Baseball season game. Needless to say, Hal never had to take a job with his father.
Strat-O-Matic, based in Glen Head, NY and on the Internet at www.strat-o-matic.com, manufactures the top selling sports board games and realism/stats sports digital games. The Company publishes baseball, football, basketball and hockey games to play both on and off your computer and mobile screens. “Strat-O” games are known throughout the sports community for their statistical realism and accuracy. The Company has the world’s greatest sports game stat libraries with top-of-the-line seasons dating back to the early 1900’s. At the start of the 2016 MLB season, Strat-O-Matic introduced Baseball Daily, its first product featuring digital player cards that update every day to reflect real life current player performance as the season progresses.
The Company has a loyal celebrity following including a bevy of sports broadcasters such as Bob Costas, Jon Miller and Dan Shulman, former MLB’ers Keith Hernandez, Doug Glanville and Cal Ripken Jr., and sports super fans including Drew Carey, Ben Bernanke, Bryant Gumbel, Spike Lee and Tim Robbins. More information is available at: www.strat-o-matic.com.

Been playing S-O-M since 1979 (as a 13 yr old). Nothing compares. All four sports. I strongly suggest playing the board games before their computer versions – it gives the player great insight into how and why the games are so accurate. Strongly suggested for anyone who has any interest in sports history.

My first baseball board game was SOM back in 1967, with the 1966 season card set. Played ’em all since then and Strat is STILL the best and most realistic simulation of MLB. I’ve replayed a few seasons using Strat’s computer sim and it’s the only one I’ve played that makes me feel like I’m really managing a big league ball club.
Thank you Hal Richman for creating SOM! I’m going to be 70 years-young on January 17, 2019 and some of the happiest moments in my lifetime have come while playing Strat-O-Matic baseball, football, basketball, or hockey. If you want to play the best then forget the rest…get Strat!

Received my first SOM game with the 1966 baseball card set back in November of 1967. One of my biggest regrets in life is that I didn’t find out about Strat a few years earlier! So, for the past 51 years I’ve played just about every baseball sim available, and none of them can top SOM. I’ve replayed a few seasons using the computer game and I’m currently 63 games into a 1966 Cleveland Indians replay. Honestly, Strat is the ONLY game that makes me feel like I am actually managing a big league team. It is without question the very best at simulating MLB and it’s players. There is something about Strat that ‘just feels right’. When you have a matchup like Koufax vs. Mantle, (or Koufax vs. Ruth!) Strat is as close as you are ever going to come to the real thing!
I would also like to take a moment to thank Hal Richman for creating Strat-O-Matic. I’ll be 70 years-young on January 17, 2019, and some of the happiest moments in my lifetime have come while playing SOM baseball, football, basketball or hockey.
If you want to play the very best then forget the rest, and get Strat-O-Matic!!
    Brad.
