Strat-O-Matic Simulates 2017 NL Wild Card Game

Here at Strat-O-Matic, we’re all about playing our game and seeing how it compares to real life results. Here are our results for the last two World Series simulations.

This year’s Wild Card games are next up in our simulations. Yesterday we ran the AL Wild Card game between Minnesota and New York and today we have Colorado vs. Arizona.

Who will move on to take on Los Angeles? Let’s find out!

 COLORADO vs. ARIZONA

Jon Gray gets the call for Colorado while veteran Zack Greinke takes the hill for Arizona. Greinke works through the first two innings with only a two-out Carlos Gonzalez double the only hiccup. Arizona’s offense gets to Gray in each of the first two innings. Slugger J.D. Martinez knocks in the game’s first run with a double while Daniel Descalso follows suit with an RBI double of his own in the second inning. Charlie Blackmon gets Colorado on the board in the third inning with a homer but it’s the fourth inning where Colorado really gets to Greinke. Mark Reynolds hits a three-run home run to put Colorado up 4-2. Daniel Descalso knocks in another run, this time on an RBI groundout, to cut the lead in half. The D-Backs still trail 4-3 through four innings.

Arizona’s bullpen gets to work in the fifth and with two-on and one out David Hernandez incuded a double-play ball from Gonzalez to keep the game in reach. Fast forwarding to the seventh, Colorado again gets two-on with only one out. This time it’s Archie Bradley pitching and DJ LeMahieu with the groundball double-play. Again the Arizona bullpen keeps the game 4-3 but the offense hasn’t had a runner reach base since the fifth inning. Greg Holland is asked to get a six-out save for Colorado and he retires Ketel Marte, Paul Goldschmidt, and Martinez 1-2-3 in the 8th. Arenado smokes a 2-run triple and later scores himself in the inning as Colorado pulls away in the ninth-inning to take a 7-3 lead. Holland finishes up and Colorado wins to move on to the NLDS!
