Full Summary

No team dominated the NHL like the Montreal Canadiens of the late 1950s and this was Montreal at its best, a 91-point team (in 70 games) that outscored its foes by 100 goals. LW Dickie Moore set an NHL scoring record with 96 points. Teammate Jean Beliveau was second in scoring with 91 points. G Jacques Plante won the fourth of five straight Vezina trophies. This was the one year in eight that D Doug Harvey did not win the Norris Trophy – teammate Tom Johnson did. C Ralph Backstrom was rookie of the year. The other Montreal greats are here, too – Rocket and Henri Richard, Bernie Geoffrion and more … But others starred in this season, notably MVP Andy Bathgate, who had 40 goals and 88 points for New York. Gordie Howe had 33 goals and 78 points for Detroit. Second-place Boston had its highest finish in a decade and Chicago made the playoffs for just the second time in 13 years.
