  • Hull third to score 50; Rangers make the playoffs
Full Summary

With 11 eventual Hall of Fame skaters and goalies, Toronto won the first of three straight Stanley Cups to launch a playoff dynasty that would include four Cups in the final six years of the Original Six. The Leafs haven’t won since, so this is Toronto at its best, with Frank Mahovlich (33 goals) and speedy Dave Keon. For the season, Montreal had the No. 1 offense and defense. Goalie Jacques Plante was the MVP and Vezina winner and winger Bobby Rousseau was rookie of the year. Chicago’s Bobby Hull joined Montreal greats Rocket Richard and Bernie Geoffrion as the only 50-goal scorers in NHL history. New York reached the playoffs for the only time in a 10-year span and Detroit’s Gordie Howe scored 33 goals.
