Full Summary

The great Sandy Koufax was never better. He threw a perfect game and set the strikeout record during the tense pennant race with San Francisco. In the World Series he threw two straight shutouts, the second in Game 7 on two days’ rest. With Koufax and Don Drysdale, LA had one of the most formidable 1-2 punches in history. With 15-game winner Claude Osteen and top relief pitcher Ron Perranoski (2.24 ERA, 17 saves), it had pitching enough to support the ultimate small-ball offense that relied heavily on Maury Wills’ speed.
