1999-00 Hockey Season Roster

  • Red Hot: Devils flame out Stars in Stanley Cup finals
  • Singing Blues: St. Louis (114) tops 7 teams with 100+ points
  • Black and White: Penguins’ Jagr 1st to 3 straight point titles since Gretzky

One of the most competitive NHL seasons featured a dozen teams with at least 90 points. The closeness of the games was emphasized by the MVP: The first defenseman to win since Bobby Orr in 1972, Chris Pronger scored a mere 62 points, but led St. Louis to the top season record. Fittingly, the award named for “Rocket” Richard as the top goal scorer went to the “Russian Rocket,” Pavel Bure, whose 58 goals for Florida were 14 more than runner-up Owen Nolan of San Jose.
