Despite injuries to key players, the two-time NL champs nearly became the first team to win three consecutive NL pennants since the 1942-44 St. Louis Cardinals. The injuries dropped the Phillies to fifth in home runs (166) and batting average (.260). They also were second in runs (772) with a lineup that featured five hitters with double-digit home runs. Shane Victorino was a Gold Glove center fielder and also swiped 34 bases. Carlos Ruiz led the Phillies with a .302 average and also caught a pitching staff that led the league with 14 complete games and six shutouts. Roy Halladay won his second CY Young Award as he seamlessly adjusted to the NL. Roy Oswalt was another shrewd midseason acquisition and Cole Hamels rebounded from a disappointing 2009. In the bullpen, Brad Lidge saved 27 games while Ryan Madson finished with a 2.55 ERA
