The Giants finally are champions. This 92-win team rallied to win the NL West on the final day of the regular season and then won their first championship in San Francisco and the franchise’s first since 1954. Tim Lincecum did not win a third straight CY Young but finished strong and led the league in strikeouts for the third consecutive season. Matt Cain tossed four complete games and Jonathan Sanchez won 13 games for a pitching staff that led the NL in ERA, innings, saves and strikeouts. Closing the door was Brian Wilson who led the league in saves. The Giants featured a lineup that was average in most categories but it was one that welcomed Aubrey Huff to the NL and Buster Posey to full-time catching and NL rookie of the year.
