Atlanta (89-73): Rookies Craig Kimbrel (rookie-record 41 saves, 2.10 ERA, 127 Ks in 77 IP) and 1B Freddy Freeman (.282-21-76) finished 1-2 in NL Rookie-of-the-Year voting. Kimbrel anchored a superb bullpen that showcased lefty setup men Johnny Venters (1.84 ERA, 96 Ks in 88 IP) and Eric O’Flaherty (0.98 ERA). Alas, with little offensive support beyond Freeman, C Brian McCann (.270-24-71) and Dan Uggla’s 36 HR, the bullpen ran out of gas in September and the Braves suffered a historic collapse that cost it a place in the playoffs.
