Oakland (74-88):  The A’s 3.71 team ERA was third best in the AL, but Oakland also scored the league’s second fewest runs. LF Josh Willingham had 29 HR and 98 RBI and sparkplug 2B Jemile Weeks hit .303 and stole 22 bases. Lefty Gio Gonzalez (16-12, 3.12) and Brandon McCarthy (1.13 WHIP) were top starters. Andrew Bailey (24 saves) and Grant Balfour (2.47 ERA, 1.03 WHIP) backed them up in the ‘pen.
