The top pitching staff in the AL features James Shields (16-12, 2.82), whose 11 complete games were the most since 1999, Rookie of the Year Jeremy Hellickson (13-10, 2.95), closer Kyle Farnsworth (5-1, 2.18, 25 saves, 0.988 WHIP) and setup man Joel Peralta (2.93 ERA, 0.916 WHIP). Longoria led eight double-figure HR hittes with 31 HR and 99 RBI. The Rays survived the off-season loss of free-agent Carl Crawford by promoting dynamic OF Desmond Jennings, who had 10 HR and 20 SB after the All-Star break. Even without Crawford, Tampa led the AL with 155 stolen bases, led by B.J. Upton, who had 36 while also slugging 23 HR.
