Sporting News.Com, Fantasy Sports Players Ass'n, Guzzo & Crowder To Speak

NEW YORK, NY, MAY 14, 2002 -- Two of the leaders in the fantasy sports industry, Sporting News.Com and the Fantasy Sports Players Association (FSPA) join three of the most well-known names in the world of Strat-O-Matic -- Hal Richman , Glenn Guzzo and Jeff Crowder -- as featured speakers of the Official Strat-O-Matic 40th Anniversary Convention on July 26-28, 2002 at St. John's University in Queens, NY. More speakers will be announced shortly.

"SportingNews.com Presents Strat-O-Matic Baseball" began play on April 22 and has had a tremendous reception from the Strat-O-Matic community. Bernie Hou representing Sporting News.Com will speak about the game, host a round-table discussion and moderate an open Q&A for Strat players to share their views on the new product. This will be the SOM community's best chance to provide feedback on the game.

"We look forward to supporting the Convention and meeting the loyal Strat players from across the country. Many participated in our Beta test and helped develop the game," said Eric Barmack of Sporting News.Com. "We come to the Convention with open ears to learn ways to make the game even better."

Attendees will also be treated to a presentation from Rick Wolf, Chairman of the Fantasy Sports Players Association and long-time fantasy sports insider. The FSPA is a non-profit trade organization, founded in 1998 for the betterment of the fantasy sports industry and to encourage participation in Fantasy Sports Leagues. The FSPA protects the commercial and consumer rights of individual players and business owners, address government regulations and serve as the unified voice of the Fantasy Sports Industry.

The FSPA and The Sporting News.Com will be joined by a familiar name to long-time SOM players, Glen Guzzo, former editor of STRAT FAN Magazine and the organizer of the 1998 Strat-O-Matic Convention in Akron, OH. Although many people may yearn for the old days, Glenn will discuss why now is truly the Second Golden Age of Fantasy Sports.

Jeff Crowder, host of the SOMWorld Radio Network and Somworld.Com will host two roundtable sessions for attendees on Tips for Commissioners and Drafting Strategy. Additional roundtable topics and speakers will be announced shortly.
