3-Minute Baseball: Grand Slam Single!

This week’s 3-Minute Baseball features a great late-90s rivalry out of the NL East between New York and Atlanta. In the bottom of the 15th inning of Game 5 of the 1999 NLCS, with the score tied 3-3 and Atlanta up 3 games to 1 in the series, Robin Ventura stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded and launched his famous "Grand Slam Single" off Atlanta reliever Kevin McGlinchy. The ball cleared the right-center field wall, but Ventura never finished his trot around the bases, as his teammates mobbed him near second base. Two nights later, Atlanta would win a walk-off, extra inning game of their own, but this time, it was to clinch a trip to the World Series. What a memorable series it was!
