Full Summary

The New York Islanders’ fourth straight Stanley Cup may have been its most remarkable. Not only did the Islanders’ 96 points fail to win their division, but they dominated the finals against the most explosive scoring team in NHL history, 424-goal Edmonton. Mike Bossy’s 60 goals and 118 points for the Isles were impressive, but Wayne Gretzky’s 71 goals and 125 assists gave him an astonishing 72 points more than the next highest scorer in the league, Quebec’s Peter Stastny. Check out the other Oilers: Mark Messier (48-58-106), Glenn Anderson (48-56-104) and Jari Kurri (45-59-104). Paul Coffey was the league’s highest-scoring defenseman (29-67-96).

This card set features a particularly strong Boston team. Forwards Barry Pederson (46 goals, 107 points) and Rick Middleton (49 goals), defenseman Ray Bourque (22 goals, 51 assists, +49) and goalie Pete Peeters (Vezina Trophy) led the Bruins to the league’s best regular season at 110 points. Philadelphia (Bobby Clarke, Darryl Sittler, Brian Propp) won the Islanders’ division with 106 points. Denis Savard’s 121-point season and Rookie of the Year Steve Larmer led Chicago to 104 points. Montreal’s Mark Napier (40 goals) and Guy Lafleur led the NHL’s second-highest scoring team.
