Full Summary

Larry Bird won his third straight (and last) MVP award and Boston, with new bench strength in Bill Walton, was better than ever. The expected finals rematch with 62-win LA was derailed when Houston’s Akeem Olajuwon (23.5 ppg, 11.5 rpg) and Ralph Sampson (18.9 ppg, 11.1 rpg) knocked out the Lakers. Michael Jordan, injured for all but 18 season games, returned to score 63 and 49 points against Boston in the playoffs.
