1938 (old) Baseball Season Roster

  • Yankees wipe out all comers again
  • Fab Fifties: Greenberg slugs 58 HR, Foxx 50
  • No-no: Johnny Vander Meer fires back-to-back no-hitters

Jimmie Foxx led the AL by hitting .349 and driving in 175 runs, but his 50 HR were not nearly enough to secure a Triple Crown, as Hank Greenberg (58 HR) challenged Babe Ruth’s record. Nor were Foxx’ Red Sox nearly good enough to challenge the dominant Yankees. The fine four-team NL pennant race won by the Cubs was for the privilege of getting swept in the World Series.
