Strat-O-Matic’s 60th Anniversary is Here! A letter from Hal Richman.

To The Strat-O-Matic Community,

First and foremost, the Strat-O-Matic team hopes that this letter finds you and your family healthy and safe during these unprecedented times…

It all starts here.

Welcome to our 60th Anniversary celebration. It’s hard to believe that it has been 60 years since we launched our first set of baseball cards!  Whether you have been with us the entire time or have just recently discovered the joys of playing our game, I want to thank you for being part of the Strat-O-Matic community. I hope that you share my excitement about this year’s offerings, which will provide you with a multitude of surprises- just a few of which are mentioned below.

As many of you know, we will be releasing two seasons representing 2020. The first is the unprecedented actual 60 game 2020 Season and the second is 2020 Imagined, which adds projected stats for the missing 102 games.  Both sets will be available for our Board, Windows, and Baseball 365 platforms. The statistics that the Imagined set is based on will be released in mid-January before pre-orders begin.

We will be bringing you some of your all-time favorites for our 60th Anniversary Celebration.  This includes TWO stellar classic seasons: 1972, featuring the champion A’s, and 1956, our first-ever classic season, upgraded to Super Advanced! Our incredibly popular Heroes series will also return for its 3rd Edition.  Look out for our 2021 Career Historical update, Hall of Fame 2021 for Windows and three new Negro League Seasons for Windows (1918, 1928, 1943).  A new player set also will be coming to Baseball 365 when the 2000’s Mystery Game launches next week.

In addition to the incredible list of new sets, you can celebrate this year in style with our 60th Anniversary Logo T-Shirt and a new high-quality Strat-O-Matic hat!  A blast from the past- the classic Red Baseball Box, in limited supply, is returning in celebration of our Anniversary.  You can read much more detail about our new products in our upcoming newsletter in January.

Starting in March, we are thrilled to present one Strat-O-Matic surprise a month in celebration of our 60th! Check-in frequently as you will not want to miss out on what’s coming.

We also want to acknowledge the historic Major League distinction that the Negro Leagues received from MLB. Throughout 2020, Strat-O-Matic has donated 10 percent of all sales of our Negro Leagues products to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City, MO to further the legacy of this truly amazing organization that is essential to both civil rights and sports history.  We are proud to extend the 10 percent donation program through 2021.

As you know, every year we have been excited to welcome you to our headquarters to be the first to pick-up new products for the season. Our celebratory Strat-O-Matic Opening Day festivities in early February have become tradition for hundreds of fans across the country and even Canada!  However, this year, due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, we will be unable to have an Opening Day Celebration when our products are released.  There will be no pick-ups from our headquarters in Glen Head until two weeks after orders start shipping. We encourage everyone to order via our website for delivery. However, if you must pick-up your products, we will allow customers at our headquarters starting March 5th.

Here are some important dates to remember:

  • January 26th:  Pre-Orders Begin.
  • February 19th:  Products start to ship.  Please note, the Strat-O-Matic headquarters in Glen Head will be closed to the public, without exception, from 2/19/21 to 3/4/21.
  • March 5th: Pick-ups are available at Strat-O-Matic in Glen Head. If you wish to pick-up your product, you must order over the phone. We strongly encourage all customers to order via our website for shipment of products this year.

Thanks for all that you do.  Community is everything to us.  Wishing you all the very best for 2021 and Happy 60th!

Be Well.  Play Well.

Congrats Hal on 60 years of Strat! Great choices- 1972 was the first card set I ever bought and I was about to replay the 1956 Indians- was literally going to begin the season tomorrow, and will now wait to play it in Super-advanced. Genius idea to have two 2020 seasons- also really look forward to that. Happy New Year Hal!

Will there be a re-release of the popular 1977 baseball season in super advanced version? Been playing Strat since 1967 and I love all your sports sims because they are still the best I’ve ever played. Believe me, I’ve tried every game that’s hit the market over the past 50+ years to see how they compare to SOM, and…NOTHING comes close! All the other baseball board games I’ve checked out has one glaring weakness: The pitching part of the game. The pitching cards in other games are always duplicated, meaning there is no REAL pitcher vs. batter. You can throw a blanket over a good portion of the cards represented in each set. Strat has been around for 60 years and you’d be hard pressed to find two cards that are alike! No two pitchers in real life MLB were ever exactly alike. I rest my case.
