Strong last year, the Toronto Raptors added superstar Kawhi Leonard to complete its ascent. They won 74 games – 16 in the post-season that included conquests of both conference champions, Milwaukee and Golden State. Finals MVP Leonard was just what the Raptors’ needed for their first appearance in the NBA finals against a Golden State team that reached the finals for the fifth straight season, more than any team since the 1966 Boston Celtics. The Warriors’ quest for a third straight crown was sabotaged by injuries to stars Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson.

Scoring champ James Harden scored at least 30 points in 32 straight games (57 times for the season), topped 50 points nine times and twice scored 61. His regular-season average of 36.1 points per game was the seventh best of all-time. Only Wilt Chamberlain and Michael Jordan have had higher averages.

Elsewhere, LeBron James could not revive the Lakers, with James himself falling to third-team All-NBA, no longer a first-teamer for the first time since 2007. But Harden, Giannis Antekounmpo of Milwaukee, Stephen Curry of Golden State, Paul George of Oklahoma City and others left no shortage of stars in the NBA sky.
