Full Summary

Bill Russell vs. Wilt Chamberlain. Game 7 of the playoffs semi-finals. Boston beats Philadelphia 110-109, then goes on to beat LA to win the Celtics’ sixth straight NBA title.  So close for the scoring champion, Chamberlain (34.7 ppg and 22.9 rpg), yet the victory cigar belonged to legendary Celtics coach Red Auerbach once again.

As this series proved, the NBA was maturing in style, adding rookies Dave DeBusschere (Detroit) and Willis Reed (New York) to a league with Oscar Robertson (30.4 ppg, 11.5 apg and 9.0 rpg), Jerry West (31 ppg), Elgin Baylor (27.1 ppg, 12.8 rpg), Jerry Lucas (21.4 ppg, 20 rpg), Sam Jones (25.9 ppg), Walt Bellamy (24.8 ppg, 14.6 rpg), Nate Thurmond (16.5 ppg, 18.1 rpg) and many more future Hall of Famers in their primes.
