Full Summary

For seven straight seasons, the Red Wings were the NHL’s best regular-season team and this was the best of them all. Mr. Hockey, Gordie Howe, topped the NHL in scoring and rookie goalie Terry Sawchuk set an NHL record with 44 wins. Three more future Hall of Famers – defenseman Red Kelly and Howe’s linemates Sid Abel and Ted Lindsay – were among the league’s top nine scorers. But Toronto could match Detroit’s defense. And Teeder Kennedy, Max Bentley, Todd, Sloan and Sid Smith scored enough to get the Leafs the ultimate prize, the Stanley Cup. Can’t get enough? Here’s more.
