Full Summary

Rich in future Hall of Famers in their high-scoring prime, this season is most notable for Edmonton’s 119 points and 426 goals. Wayne Gretzky shattered all records with 163 assists and 215 points and Oiler teammate Paul Coffey scored 48 goals to top Bobby Orr’s record of 46 for defensemen. Oiler RW Jari Kurri led the NHL with 68 goals. But a fluke goal sent 89-point Calgary into the Stanley Cup finals, where Montreal rookie goalie Patrick Roy and winger Claude Lemieux stole the show and the Cup.
