Down in games 2-0 in the finals, Pittsburgh pulled off the unlikely task of beating the powerful Red Wings four of the next five games, clinching the Cup in Detroit. The Penguins’ Evgeni Malkin led the NHL in scoring (113 points) for both the season and the playoffs, the first such player also to win the playoff MVP. Teammate Sidney Crosby was the youngest captain ever to hoist the Stanley Cup.
