Full Summary

The 1911 season had a three-team pennant chase, superstar talent in its prime and a wealth of lessons about early Black Ball play. With teams and players rated for a 150-game season, Rube Foster (25-7, 1.87) was the king of the hill in a league with Smokey Joe Williams (25-12, 2.22), Frank Wickware (26-10, 2.52) and Dick Redding (23-13, 2.71) and four other 20-game winners in a six-team league … Foster’s teammate in Chicago, HOF OF Pete Hill, led the league with a 1.072 OPS. That added up to an 87-73 record, better than second-place New York’s 83-67 and St. Louis’ 82-68.
