Full Summary

This 14-team, two-division league is calculated for a 156-game schedule showcasing 12 Hall of Famers (Oscar Charleston, Andy Cooper, Pete Hill, Judy Johnson, Pop Lloyd, Biz Mackey, Jose Mendez, Bullet Joe Rogan, Louis Santop, Ben Taylor, Cristobal Torriente, Smokey Joe Williams) and 34 more from SOM’s Negro Stars set.

Atlantic City’s Bacharachs (87-69), Chicago’s American Giants (96-60), KC’s Monarchs (92-64), and Philadelphia’s Hilldale (91-65) were the teams richest in wins in the 1920s. There’s a grasping middle class in New York (82-74), and St. Louis (89-67) with Cleveland, Columbus, Detroit, and Indianapolis within five games of .500. It makes for a solid and competitive season.

Triple Crown winner Oscar Charleston came within five hits of .400 (.392) for St. Louis. Another 30 qualifiers topped .300; nine were at .350 or better. Chicago Leland’s John Beckwith led in Doubles (47), Charleston and Columbus’ Hawk Thomas shared the league lead in triples (18); Charleston (25) led Chicago’s Cristobal Torriente (21) and Detroit’s Edgar Wesley (20) in home runs. That man Charleston led 2nd place St. Louis’ Charles Blackwell in RBI by 11. And it was Charleston (1.122), Torriente (1.048), Blackwell (1.041), and Philly’s Louis Santop (1.036) who soared over the 1.000 OPS benchmark.

With so much run support, 17 pitchers won 20 or more. St. Louis had three while Detroit, KC, NY and Philly had two each. Chicago’s Dave Brown (27-7, 2.51) led in wins and ERA. Dick Redding of Atlantic City (26-14) and Dick Whitworth of Philly (26-10) were next in wins.

Big winners Baltimore’s Doc Sykes (21-15, 2.57), KC’s Bullet Joe Rogan (21-10, 2.60) and NY’s Smokey Joe Williams (22-13, 2.62), were next in ERA.
