Full Summary

The 1932 Negro Leagues saw perhaps the greatest assemblage of restricted talent that the major league never got to display.

This 16-team season is set up for 150 games in the Southern and East-West leagues. Play with 16 Hall of Famers (Cool Papa Bell, Ray Brown, Oscar Charleston, Big Bill Foster, Josh Gibson, Judy Johnson, Pop Lloyd, Satchel Paige, Bullet Joe Rogan, Hilton Smith, Turkey Stearnes, Mule Suttles, Cristobel Torriente, Willie Wells, Smokey Joe Williams, Jud Wilson) and 47 more Negro Stars, many at the peak of their athleticism.

Newark player-manager John Beckwith (1.118 OPS) won the Triple Crown, a rare bit of sunshine for his overmatched 91-loss team. He beat out 26 others who topped the .300 mark, at .362. In Home Runs (40) and RBI (130) he distanced himself from runner-up Chicago’s Turkey Stearnes (33; 118). Washington’s Mule Suttles smacked 55 doubles. KC’s Cool Papa Bell (also 34 steals) and Monroe’s Red Parnell shared the lead with 17 Triples.

Fourteen pitchers won 20 or more games. Monroe’s Dick Matthews (24-8) and the Crawfords’ William Bell (24-10) were tops. Matthews was joined by his club mate Barney Morris (21-14); Bell by teammate Satchel Paige (20-10). Chicago had three best 20: Big Bill Foster (23-11), Melvin Powell (22-9), and Willie Powell (21-14). Montgomery’s Nelson Everett (23-8) won the ERA title at 2.24, 12 points better than Paige.
