Full Summary

A six-team Negro League that stretched from New York to Havana was dominated by Chicago’s American Giants. Pro-rated to a 150-game season, the Giants went 89-61 and won the pennant by nine games over Indianapolis and New York.

In a Dead Ball-era season dominated by such pitchers as New York’s Smokey Joe Williams (26-10, 2.36), Chicago’s Frank Wickware (21-15, 2.26), five other 20-game winners and ERA leader Juan Padron (2.10) of Havana, Havana’s Cristobal Torriente still hit .345 with a 963 OPS. Only four other men topped .300: Spot Poles (.331, 26 SB for New York) and future Hall of Famers Louis Santop (.338 for New York), Pop Lloyd (.312 for Chicago) and Ben Taylor (.303 for Indy).

Gamers familiar with Strat-O-Matic’s Negro League Stars set will recognize 21 players from that set, including Hall of Famers Rube Foster, Pete Hill, Pop Lloyd, Jose Mendez, Louis Santop, Ben Taylor, Cristobal Torriente and Smokey Joe Williams.
