  • A SUPER Bowl: 92-yard drive in final minute wins for San Francisco over Cinci
  • Super Hopefuls: 12-4 Buffalo and Chicago, 11-5 Minnesota and 10-6 Rams
  • Super Stars: Joe Montana, Roger Craig, Jerry Rice, Boomer Esiason, Icky Woods
Full Summary

San Francisco had HB Roger Craig gaining more than 2,000 from scrimmage, Joe Montana completing nearly 60 percent of his passes and Jerry Rice receiving 1,306 yards of passes. But the 49ers were just 10-6 before a decisive playoff run. And it took Montana’s magic – a full-length drive against the clock – to secure SF’s third Super Bowl of the decade. Your replay might turn out differently. The explosive Cincinnati Bengals had the AFC’s No. 1 passer in Boomer Esiason, nearly 2,000 yards rushing from Icky Woods and James Brooks and four big-play receivers … The Super Bowl foes will have plenty of competition before then. Chicago’s stalwart defense (Mike Singletary, Richard Dent) and Buffalo’s Jim Kelly and Bruce Smith led their teams to 12-4 records. Minnesota (11-5) had the NFC’s top passer (Wade Wilson) and the top pass defense (36 INTs).
