Full Summary

Flashy offenses sparkled everywhere. Houston (9-7) unveiled the run-and-shoot and Warren Moon passed for 4,689 yards and 33 TDs. Buffalo (13-3) adopted a no-huddle offense to take advantage of passer Jim Kelly (101 rating), runner Thurman Thomas (1,297 yards) and receiver James Lofton (20 yards per catch). Barry Sanders won his second rushing title (1,304 yds, 5.1 avg, 13 tds) in his second year. But it was the ball-control Giants (13-3) with backup QB Jeff Hostetler and the NFL’s stingiest defense that won the Super Bowl, 20-19, when Buffalo’s Scott Norwood missed a 47-yard field goal in the last seconds.
