With Babe Ruth and Bob Meusel suspended until May 20 for off-season barnstorming, the St. Louis Browns nearly stole the Yankees’ crown. George Sisler set a modern record, hitting .420. Ken Williams did steal Ruth’s HR crown, swatting 39 in a huge year (.332-39-155, 37 steals). But the Yanks won the pennant by one game, then lost the World Series to the on the cross-town Giants, who had eight men hit above .320.
