Full Summary

The war effort reduced the quality of baseball players on Major League teams and the quality of the baseballs they used. While most stats plunged, young Stan Musial rose above, hitting .357 to win his first batting title and slamming 48 doubles and 20 triples. His Cardinals won the NL by 18 games, only to succumb quickly to the Yankees’ Spud Chandler (20-4, 1.64), Bill Dickey and Charlie Keller in the World Series.
